I was driving home last night from school, around 8:00 p.m. I had to stop my car to let three young deer cross the street. I could not have been more than 200 feet away from a 7-11 when this event occurred. That's one of the things I love about Brownwood. I never saw that happen in Fort Worth. Lots of cows around, but never any deer crossing the street.
I returned to the library at Southwestern yesterday to do some studying for an upcoming presentation. The school is located on my way back home from my parents' and I am familiar with the library setup, so it seemed like a logical fit. It's hard to believe, but I still encounter a wave of awe and inspiration whenever I walk into that library. To think that many great scholars, pastors, and missionaries walked those same aisles, touched those same books, and studied at the same tables warms my spirit. What brought tears to my eyes, though, was seeing all the current students. With their laptops, pile of books, and Bibles (always their Bibles) in front of them, they journey onward towards the task at hand. To see so many students surrendering their time, money, and lives to the calling of God will leave anyone breathless. As I looked around that library, I saw faithful servants, called by God, to minister to His people. Not only were they willing to answer the call, but they were willing to become fully equipped to do so. Since I graduated, the school has added new signs around campus. They simply say "As you go, preach." Doesn't that say it all? Whatever we're called by God to do, shouldn't that be our mission statement?
A big storm was coming through last night as I was leaving work. A security guy at work told me to hurry home since it was right behind us. I took his advice, especially since our last big storm caused so much damage. I did have to make one important stop, though, before I was home. I pulled over to the nearest gas station and made my much needed purchase of chocolate! Hey, when your sweet tooth calls, someone has to pick up the phone!
